2nd Annual Community Celebration
On December 1st, 2018, LARSPP and Los Angeles State Historic Park staff welcomed student performers and artists from Albion Street, Ann Street, and Solano Avenue Elementary Schools.

Families, neighbors, and friends came out to enjoy the performances and also learn more about the issues that we are currently working on namely our Ann Street Stoplight campaign (#needstoplightnow).

We rely on generous donations for our free raffle and we also rely on the park staff, volunteers, and the Park Promotorx to help make it all happen! We are so fortunate and thankful to you all!
Thank you Taylor Fitz-Gibbon for the wonderful pictures!

Pedal2Parks welcomes Bike!Bike!
On September 27th 2018, LARSPP along with Public Matters, Bike!Bike! organizers, Los Angeles State Historic Park staff, and many bike train leaders from People for Mobility Justice, Ride On!, C.I.C.L.E., Relampago Wheelery/Eco Village, and HBC organized a welcoming celebration for Bike!Bike! an international conference of bicycling advocates from around the world. The night was filled with inspiring conversations, people, music, and some dancing!

The Bike!Bike! Conference was an opportunity to share experiences across organizations and cultures about improving bike access. LARSPP took this opportunity to work with GreenInfo Network to create a mobile app with "chill ways", more relaxed bike routes to our Los Angeles River Parks. Check out the app using the app on your phone at pedal2parks.org. We also released a report making "The Case for Safe Bicycling and Pedestrian Access to State Parks on the Los Angeles River", which you can download below.

Los Angeles State Historic Park Grand Opening (2017)

On Earth Day, April 20, 2017, Los Angeles State Historic Park opened at last!  After nearly two decades of community-led activism in cooperation with California State Parks, Governor Brown cut the ribbon to the newest member of the Los Angeles River State Parks family.

In the 1990s, developers proposed a 900,000 square foot warehouse and manufacturing project on the former railyard but local activists organized the Chinatown Yard Alliance in 1998 to fight for a Park on this land. California State Parks purchased the Cornfield in 2001 with bond funding approved by voters.

The process of turning this land into a State Park was long and complicated and the economic recession caused further delay and compromise. After several years of interim use, including the “Not a Cornfield” project in 2005, the Park was closed in 2014 for construction.  The Park you see today was made possible by the diligent work of many in our community.
